Manic Depression Symptoms: How to tell if you are manic…

orig

Manic Depression also referred to as Bi Polar Depression can be a confusing and hard to understand illness especially when you don’t know you have it or you are experiencing signs and symptoms but don’t know what they mean.

Here are some symptoms and signs of Manic/Bipolar Depression to help you decide if you or someone you know may have this debilitating disorder.

  • Yesterday you felt just fine. Today you feel like you just HAVE to go/do and BE!
  • You teeter-totter between being really tired and not caring about anything to wanting to do everything, go everywhere, see places you don’t normally even think about, participate in activities that usually have bad consequences (like sleeping with strangers, taking drugs, and  excessive drinking)- but you don’t care -  and you may eat and / or sleep opposite of what you were not too long ago.
  • You all of a sudden “can’t turn your brain off” You have tons of really cool, super great ideas!
  • You can also go from being the life of the party, visiting people, dating, and inspiring others, to hiding in your room, sleeping, drinking, not cleaning anything or changing your clothes. Your phone is suddenly “lost” or off the hook, You don’t answer your door, and you feel like the world is ending and nothing will ever be good again. That social happy, perky person you were a few weeks ago, must have just been your imagination….
  • And you talk too much! BIG sign of a manic phase. You talk and talk and talk, when normally you don’t talk all that much. And not only that but you are talking so fast people are now looking at you like you have a spider on your forehead and nodding like they are in a daze ( probably because they are!)

There are many different ways people describe Manic Depression and many symptoms and signs, but the basic point everyone in all the articles you wil find on the internet on Manic and bi polar depression are pretty much explaining that manics, and bi-polars switch from mood to mood. sometimes you are in one for a few days, sometimes its a few weeks or months. Then you Turn around and go the opposite direction – sad, empty, mad, irritated, grumpy, etc. They call these “cycles” and they can also be very rapid.

It is not unusual to find people who cycle several time s DAY, rather than weeks or months. People who suffer from this type of fast paced mood changes suffere from what is called  Rapid Cycling.

So, If you , or someone you know shows some of the signs listed above, consider visiting a psychologist, psychiatrist and mental health clinic for an evaluation and possible medication and/or therapy.

Waiting it out or hoping it goes away will lead to years of waiting.. hoping and cycling. Years that you should be spending enjoying your life and sharing your gifts with those in your life.
